200 Dead Dogs Found at Goose Creek Home

Berkeley County Sheriff's Office officials say the 45 living dogs may not survive; more dead dogs expected as investigation continues.

Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has uncovered a horrific scene at a Goose Creek home where 45 dogs in "very poor condition" and 200 dead dogs were found.

More than 100 dog skulls were found at the scene off of Howe Hall Road, behind Blue and Gold Auto Storage. Authorities told Patch the surviving dogs may not live.

Loney L. Garrett is in custody for the incident. He's currently charged with ill-treatment of animals, but Berkeley County Sheriff PIO Dan Moon said charges will likely be added.

Animal Rescue and Relief has taken the living dogs to get veterinary attention, Moon told Patch.

Moon said it doesn't appear to be a dog fighting or puppy mill operation, and that the dogs are hounds.

"It's a terrible, stinking, sloppy, terribly unhealthy situation back here," Moon said.

The search for carcasses, and in most cases bones, will continue Tuesday morning. Moon said authorities expect to find more dead dogs.
