5 State Checkpoints This Weekend in Berkeley County
S.C. Department of Public Safety trying to reduce accidents this holiday weekend.
With 4th of July festivities expected to continue through the weekend, the S.C. Department of Public Safety will be manning five safety checkpoints in the area.
"When a holiday falls mid-week, we see motorists traveling both weekends – before and after the holiday," said Cpl. Bob Beres. "That is why troopers will be out in larger numbers throughout the week, joining other law enforcement agencies for saturation and public safety checkpoints to keep motorists safe."

Beres said the number one concern during the July 4 travel period is impaired driving. The Highway Patrol and State Transport Police made 4,930 DUI arrests during the 100 Days of Summer HEAT last year.

Why announce where these checkpoints will be? That doesn't help catch those motorists who are smart enough to check so they can avoid them. Seems like you're only catching really stupid people? Other states do not broadcast where these checkpoints will be located and catch many more drug induced motorists.
