Ann Coulter Endorses SC1 Contender Curtis Bostic

GOP rival to Mark Sanford receives a slew of endorsements in the final week before the April 2 runoff.

A two-day blitz of endorsements for South Carolina First Congressional District GOP candidate Curtis Bostic appears to have climaxed with his latest endorsement: conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

Bostic is vying for the GOP nomination in the special election race. He's up against well-known and well-heeled former Gov. Mark Sanford. Bostic previously held public office on Charleston County Council, and is a lawyer. Bostic has also received endorsements from former Presidential candidate Rick Santorum and retired Maj. Gen. James Livingston.

The runoff is April 2.

Bostic's campaign manager confirmed Coulter's endorsement Tuesday night. The official announcement is expected some time Wednesday.

The endorsement shouldn't come as much of a surprise since last week Coulter wrote an opinion piece blasting Sanford. She called Sanford the "Todd Akin of South Carolina," referencing the Republican Congressman who made national headlines saying "legitimate rape" victims rarely get pregnant. She predicted Sanford would lose to the Democratic nominee in the May 7 special election should he win the runoff against Bostic.

Coulter endorsed GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who won his party's nomination only to lose to incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama. Coulter is a conservative commentator who had frequent appearances on national television and radio. She is also an eight-time best-selling author and syndicated columnist. She's known for her hard-right views that sometimes clash with the Republican party. She is currently in a feud with Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ken over socially conservative views.

Winner of the April 2 runoff will go on to face business leader and Democratic candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch in a May 7 special election. The First Congressional District seat became open earlier this year as now-Sen. Tim Scott accepted an appointment to the U.S. Senate after Sen. Jim DeMint retired from the position.

Sanford and Bostic were the top two candidates after a primary that included 16 candidates, which did not allow a single candidate to earn more than 50 percent of the vote and avoid a runoff. .
