Bill Would Ban Children on Motorcycles

Legislation from Rep. Daning would ban children under 8 from riding.

State Rep. Joe Daning (R-Goose Creek) has introduced legislation in the House to keep small children off of motorcycles.

The bill, H. 4653, would make it illegal to transport a person who is 7-years-old or younger on a motorcycle.

Daning told Patch the bill is about child safety. He said its unsafe to allow a child to ride on a motorcycle when they can't be properly secured.

"Children are required to wear helmets now but that only protects them from head injury," Daning said. "Some children may not be able to reach the pegs or be able to get a good grip to hold on depending on their size."

The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. The legislation is co-sponsored by Rep. Bill Crosby (R-North Charleston).
