A Hanahan employee is suspected of embezzling $10,000 or more in city funds, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
Keyonda M. Garry surrendered Monday to face the charge of embezzlement of public funds. She has been released on a $15,000 bond.
The Sheriff's Office began the investigation at the request of the City of Hanahan.
Hanahan Administrator Johnny Crib tells Patch that Garry performed payroll in the human resources department. She was placed on leave on Aug. 3 and resigned Aug. 8.
An HR position has since been advertised for applicants.
