Two New Polls: Gingrich Running Away from SC Field (Updated)
Newt Gingrich out-polls the rest of the Republican field in the Palmetto State; Ron Paul ahead of Rick Perry.
Newt Gingrich has surged past Republican presidential contenders, with at least one-third of those surveyed over the week supporting the former House Speaker, according to two new polls released today.
Gingrich garnered support of 38 percent in the most-recent Insider Advantage poll of South Carolina Republicans conducted Monday evening for the Augusta Chronicle.
The former House Speaker, according to the poll of 519 likely Jan. 21 primary voters, has a commanding lead over former Gov. Mitt Romney at 15 percent and businessman Herman Cain at 13 percent.
No other candidate has support in the double-digits, as Rep. Ron Paul polled at 7 percent, Gov. Rick Perry at 4 percent, Rep. Michele Bachmann at 3 percent and former Sen. Rick Santorum at 2 percent.
In an American Research Group phone poll of 600 voters conducted Friday through Monday, Gingrich's lead was slimmer but still sizeable over Romney, 33 percent to 22 percent. Gingrich, polling at 8 percent by ARG just a month ago, has taken full advantage of eroding support for both Perry and Cain, who fell from 26 percent to 10 percent.
More than 40 percent of those surveyed who identified themselves as being a part of the Tea Party movement also supported Gingrich.

How soon we forget. Does anyone remember that in January 1997 the house voted 395 to 28 to fine Gingrich (at that time a record fine) $300,000 for ethical violations. Gingrich soon resigned as Speaker and from the House. What more do we need to know?????

They also pretend to ignore the Newsters envolvement in the creation of Medicare Part D that created a windfall of profits to big pharma and the health industries at the expense of the American people. NOT PAID FOR just like the tax cuts he supported the 2 wars he helped craft a hiding place for and that is just the begining. I find it alarming how uniformed and uneducated the South Carolina voters are. I have to believe that the support for the dough boy is just another dellusion created by the Republican money machine.

HEY DGB, what you need to know is what he is going to do to fix Medicare, Medicaid, the Corrupt civil service program, Nation defense and a host of other issues. AS you said he was censured , fined and it is over, actually over more then 25 years ago!

HEY JOE what you need to know is that he has no intention on fixing Medicare, Medicaid or any other program. What the Newsters intention is to capitolize on the stupidity of voter like you. His plan is to privatize Social Security to create another cash cow for wall street to swindle away along with American's retirement. His plan is to sell his books for profit. This guy is not even accepted by his own party. You are truly dellusional.

We have decided that we wouldn't vote for an adulterer who would dump TWO wives when they got sick if he were the ONLY one running. Those are HIS "family values". They sure aren't ours!!

"family values" you keep your and I'll keep mine and I will vote for the candidate who can fix our problems, who he sleeps with is none of my business! I think, just think that this great man named Jesus, drew a line in the sand to stop the abuse of an adulterer. Oh I don't know, maybe I read that wrong....

The House voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty, the first time in the House's 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing.
The ethics case and its resolution leave Gingrich with little leeway for future personal controversies, House Republicans said. Exactly one month before yesterday's vote, Gingrich admitted that he brought discredit to the House and broke its rules by failing to ensure that financing for two projects would not violate federal tax law and by giving the House ethics committee false information.
"Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). "If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment."

Lindsay Graham voted for a bill that would allow the military to hold (imprison) someone accused of being a terrorist, including an American citizen, forever in prison without being charged or tried. The man is dangerous, very dangerous to all our civil liberties.
------------
"The enemy is all over the world. Here at home. And when people take up arms against the United States and [are] captured within the United States, why should we not be able to use our military and intelligence community to question that person as to what they know about enemy activity?" Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said.
"They should not be read their Miranda Rights. They should not be given a lawyer," Graham said. "They should be held humanely in military custody and interrogated about why they joined al Qaeda and what they were going to do to all of us."

George, if you joined Al Qaeda, you LOSE any rights guaranteed by the Constitution! If you rob a bank you lose the right to vote, the right to bear arms etc. The Constitution is for law abiding citizens! Now I know we have all seen the movies were Army guys strip Americans of their rights and throw them in jail blah blah NY Times crap! But if you take up arms against this country YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS!

Joe,
Actually, you don't lose your rights if you rob a bank. You lose your rights after you are convicted of robbing a bank. The key is a person loses their some of their rights after they are legally convicted of wrong doing, not when someone accuses them, or says they did something wrong. It is currently against the law and the Constitution to hold an American in custody indefinitely without charging them and then trying them. What Sen. Graham voted for would turn our Constitutionally protected freedoms upside down!

Eric, if you rob a bank, yes you get a trial, as an American, Now i am pretty sure when our Founding Fathers created the Bill of Rights they were not aware of Al Qaeda! IF you decide to join AL Qaeda you lose ALL rights! Sorry, no Constitutional rights for you! Case closed. And by the way, many of our "rights" have been turned upside down a long time ago!

Hey Eric, I have a friend, Plea bargained for a crime sentenced under Megan's law, convicted sex offender, after 10 years the law now says he cannot open his door on Halloween, or decorate his house, now nowhere in his original plea did he give up those rights. but the courts have upheld his "due process" due to the need to protect children, so where are his rights?
Joe

Eric Wood
11:46 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2011
Joe, so if I understand you correctly, if a person is accused of being a terrorist, they lose their rights, even if that person is an American? No, I am not "suggesting" that you can be an American and a member of Al Quaeda, I am outright saying it as there have been at least 4 American citizens that the US government has either captured or killed. also, the bill Sen Graham voted for, did not specify a specific terrorist group.

Joe, sorry, but innocent until proven guilty i snot a farce or old wive's tale. It is real and the fundamental basis of our legal system. Are there times that it is violated, sure, just like anything else, but it is still in force and needs to remain and this new provision is a direct assault on it.

Eric, if you are arrested, you go to jail, get fingerprinted, post bail, in most cases lose your job, you have to hire an attorney TO PROVE YOUR INNOCENCE! That doesn't sound like innocent until ,proven guilty, otherwise it would be that you get a letter in the mail, charging you with a crime, have a trial and if found guilty pay the fines and or go to jail, and if the state loses they pay!

SC is 45th out of 50 in worst managed states in the union. Joe Wilson, where are the jobs. Joe Means Jobs"
--------
45. South Carolina
> State debt per capita: $3,379 (24th highest)
> Pct. without health insurance: 17.5% (13th highest)
> Pct. below poverty line: 17.1% (8th highest)
> Unemployment: 11% (4th highest)
Fiscally speaking, South Carolina is relatively sound. It takes in the 27th most in revenue per capita and spends the 24th most in total expenditures per capita. Its state debt per capita is slightly below average. However, the state has the eighth highest poverty rate and the fourth highest unemployment rate. It also has the fifth highest rate of violent crime, with 597.7 crime committed per 100,000 people. This is actually an improvement from last year when the state’s violent crime rate was 731 per 100,000 — the worst in the country.

That skirmish you mentioned is helping Uganda and south sudan against Joseph Kony and the Lord's Liberation army. You should Google Joseph Kony, he's been a monster for 20 years.
And I guarantee you those 100 Special forces soldiers are glad to be there and happy to help end his reign of terror. We have Special Forces in many countries helping and I'm glad.

I posted this on Politico to a story that John Boehner wants to protect the Defense budget from "sequestration." Grace
------------
Boehner is wrong, he's wrong on most things.
The Defense Dept has to be cut, too big, too many bases in places where there is no threat and too expensive by far.
Why do we need bases in crete, sicily and naples? Europe can take care of Europe. We don't have to be eveybody's protector, they are capable of taking care of themselves.
Col (Ret) Tom Wilkinson said it best. We can project power faster and with more flexibility from the deck of carriers and a lot fewer bases than many bases. Our air Force can move troops from the states in 24 hours to anywhere in the world.
I'n not an historian but I read a lot of history for pleasure. And sometimes I think we are 50 years behind Europe in everything, repeating everything they've gone through and not learning one damn thing.
Romney says we can achieve an "American Century<" GW Bush said the same thing. Why do we, or the world, need an American Century? Is it ego or a sense of failure since Vietnam or just demagogues blathering to an ill informed public.
Either way Boehner is taking us down a wrong road and I wish he McConnell and all the South Carolina Congressional delegation are defeated in the next election. America, wake up!
