Jon Huntsman in Goose Creek Saturday

Candidate will visit Berkeley Republican breakfast.

Presidential candidate Jon Huntsman will be a featured speaker at this weekend's Berkeley County Republican Party breakfast.

The monthly event at the American Legion Post 166 on Howe Hall Road in Goose Creek has been a popular stop for presidential candidates reaching out to faithful primary voters.

A former ambassador to China and former governor of Utah, Huntsman has focused most of his attention on make-or-break New Hampshire. But he has also built a strong team on the ground in South Carolina when it comes time to pivot to the Palmetto State.

"He's effective when he gets out and talks about his record," said Tim Callanan, the Berkeley County Republican Party chair. "He's got a tremendous record and a tremendous resume."

With the primary less than two months away, every opportunity will be essentially to speak on issues, shake hands and, most importantly, ask for votes and Callanan said he expects more visits from presidential candidates in the coming weeks.
