Jury Convicts Two in Berkeley Robbery, Assault Case

A Berkeley County jury has found two people guilty of kidnapping, strong arm robbery and assault and battery in a Berkeley County incident, according to a release Tuesday by the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Ryan Carl Newman and Jessica Lynn Clark were convicted by a jury on Friday, according to the release. A third suspect in the case will be tried at a later date.
The state have accused the group of luring the victim to a dirt road in the Summerville area of Berkeley County, were he was allegedly robbed at gunpoint, beaten, stripped and abandoned.
Clark was accused of picking up the victim from his home and driven to the spot where Newman and another suspect were allegedly waiting to rob him. They allegedly left the victim naked on the side of the road.
"We are pleased that the jury rendered a verdict in accordance to the standards of law in which we hold all members of our community accountable," said Assistant Solicitor Ashley Cornwell.
Previously convicted for burglary, Newman was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Clark's sentencing has been postponed, according to the solicitor's office.
