Library Board Needs New Member

District 4, including portions of Goose Creek area, seeking new representative.

The Library is seeking an enthusiastic library supporter and community minded individual to serve as a member of its Board. If you reside in Berkeley County Council District Four and are interested in helping to determine the future of library service in the county, we need you. The Board meets the third Tuesday of each month, except December. If you would like to know more by attending one of these meetings, please see the schedule below. 

You may be wondering what the responsibilities of the Library Board members are. According to the trustees’ manual published by the South Carolina State Library, the library board is responsible for the library and all that happens in it. The Board members are charged with the following five (5) tasks:

  • Promoting the library in the community and promoting the community as a member of the library board;
  • Planning for the future of the library
  • Monitoring and evaluate the overall effectiveness of the library;
  • Setting policies;
  • Hiring and evaluating the director.
