Man Charged with Abuse After 5-Month-Old Hospitalized

A Hanahan man is charged with infliction of great bodily injury upon a child after his 5-month-old son went to the hospital with a fractured skull

Derek Allan Stilson, 23, of Hanahan is facing a count of infliction of great bodily injury after his 5-month-old son was rushed to an area hospital with a skull fracture.

Stilson was charged Friday and his son remains in critical condition at Medical University Hospital, according to Hanahan Police Department.

The child has been placed in protective custody. Stilson's bail was set at $250,000. He is being held at the Hill Finklea Detention Center in Berkeley County.

According to the incident report, on Feb. 19, Stilson allegedly threw the infant on the living room floor after being unable to calm the baby down. It wasn't until Feb. 21 when Stilson called 911. Listen to that phone call to the left of this story.
