Stratford JROTC Honored at Leadership Conference
Second year in a row a local student takes top spot in evaluation.
Release, Stratford High School:
This summer, Cadet Major Mindaugas "Mindy" Anderson and Cadet Capt. David Hicks attended the Youth Leadership Conference conducted on the USS Yorktown. Activities included team building exercises, leader development and mentoring sessions with senior military leaders.
Anderson, a junior at the school, was named as the top performer out of the 850 participating cadets. Throughout the week, students were evaluated on their leadership skills, teamwork and knowledge.
Instructors selected 10 Honor Cadets from each of the four companies to appear before a Company Board. The top cadet from each company then appeared before a Battalion Board where the cadets were interviewed and performed drills and ceremony movements.
The company leaders were graded on confidence, leadership and appearance, among other requirements. The three runners-up were awarded Battalion positions and named Superior Cadets.
Anderson was selected as this year's top JCLC cadet and named as the Battalion Commander with a rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel, as well as the title of Distinguished Superior Cadet.
"His success at this very demanding summer camp is an inspiration to us all," said Lt. Col. Tripp Blanton, senior Army instructor with the Stratford High JROTC.
This honor is not new for Stratford cadets — last year, another of the school's JROTC participants received this honor.
