War Hospital Flip-Flop Donation Drive Thrives
Goose Creek businesses pitching in to put some flip-flops on wounded soldiers.
Goose Creek businesses are teaming up with a local drive to provide flip-flops to injured soldiers in war zones and heading home.
Operation Flip Flops came from an unusual request an Air Force medic in made to her mother living in Moncks Corner. Georgina Walton-Floyd told her mom, Brenda Frye, that she needed flip-flops.
Her hospital gets tons of care packages, but no shoes. Walton-Floyd said staff is forced to hunt around for flip-flops or shower shoes. Troops are sent home with mismatched flip-flops or some that are too small or too big.
The Post and Courier's David Quick spoke with Frye about the donation drive in today's Post and Courier.
"I thought here she has all these traumas coming in, and she’s having to scramble for flip-flops," Frye told the paper. "It breaks my heart to think about it."
