Community Corner

Thank You, Goose Creek

My time as editor for Goose Creek Patch is coming to an end.

I am heartbroken to report that I will no longer be the editor of Goose Creek Patch.

Patch launched its South Carolina sites beginning in June 2011. Goose Creek was the first community in the state to receive a site. Greg Hambrick was your first local editor. In January, I took over for him when he left to take a new job with Patch in Virginia.

Since then, I have covered hundreds of stories — a wide swath of everything the community was buzzing about. It has been the toughest but most rewarding job of my career.

My position is eliminated — as part of a re-organization at Patch, owned by AOL — effective 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. Hundreds of communities just like Goose Creek, including all of the Patch communities in South Carolina, will also lose their editors.

I have been assured by management the elimination of the local editor positions is not because we were unsuccessful as editors or the communities weren't engaged enough. If anything, South Carolina proved the importance of local, on-the-ground journalism. You embraced us, and we worked hard to provide the news important to you.

You may continue to share your events, blogs and photos on the site, but no local Patch reporters will be covering news in Goose Creek for the foreseeable future.

I have taken a position as a reporter for South Carolina Radio Network. If you'd like to follow me on Facebook, click here. If you'd like to reach out to me, my phone number is 843-695-9845.
