Goose Creek Mayor Mike Heitzler Visits Marrington Elementary School

Marrington second grade students recently studied government in their last Social Studies unit! They learned about the different types of government and their leaders as well as actively participating in the voting process. To conclude this unit, Goose Creek Mayor Mike Heitzler visited 2nd Grade classes at Marrington Elementary School to discuss his job and responsibilities.  Mayor Heitzler has been the Mayor of Goose Creek for the past 36 years.  He was re-elected two weeks ago.  Additionally, Mayor Heitzler served as Principal of West View Elementary School for many years.

Following the presentation, Mayor Heitzler posed with the entire second grade and their teachers, and then with The Mayors and Counsel Members from Miss Lauren Reeder and Miss Rosemary Morris’ classes. Marrington Elementary School is a Berkeley County Public School that is made up primarily of children from Military Families.  Mayor Heitzler’s father served in the Marine Corps, so just like all the students, he was once a military child!
