Body Found in Francis Marion Forest

Coroner: Foul play not expected in death.

Berkeley County officials found the body of a missing Georgetown man Saturday in the Francis Marion National Forest.

John Hearne, 73, was found about a half mile from where authorities identified his truck a day earlier near the Honey Hill community, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

The cause of death is under investigation, but there is no evidence of foul play, Salisbury said.

Hearne's truck was found Friday evening bogged down. A search began Friday night and continued Saturday morning with 45 people, including personnel from the Berkeley County Rescue Squad and Sheriff's Office, as well as the state Department of Natural Resources and local firefighters.

According to Salisbury, the search include 4-wheelers, horses, an airplane, cadaver dogs and volunteers walking the woods.
