Navyman Killed in Motorcycle Wreck

Melolik Stewart was allegedly seen driving at a high rate of speed and recklessly prior to the wreck.

An 18-year-old U.S. Navy Sailor has died in a single motorcycle wreck on Crowfield Boulevard over the weekend.

The incident happened at around 8 p.m. Saturday.

According to a police report, Melolik Stewart was taken to MUSC on Saturday after his motorcycle went off the road in Goose Creek. Witness reports at the scene stated that Stewart hit his head on a stop sign before being knocked off his motorcycle.

Steward was wearing a helmet, according to the report.

He was taken to the hospital with a possible head injury, the report said. He later died.

Prior to the wreck, a Goose Creek Police officer noted Stewart driving at a high rate of speed — going 73 in a 45 mph zone — on St. James Avenue. The officer lost visual of the motorcycle once it entered onto Crowfield Boulevard and ceased pursuit.
