Memorial Service Set for Homicide Victims in Sangaree

The mother and daughter found dead in their Sangaree home will be honored by friends and family 3 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Creek Church, Live 5 News reported.

Ashley Kaney, 26, and Riley Burdick, 8, were found killed earlier this week at their home on Kershaw Road after Riley's school, Sangaree Intermediate, noted her abscess and authorized a welfare check.

Kaney's boyfriend Jacob Phillip, 22, of Summerville has been charged in the homicides. Phillip allegedly confessed to the crimes, telling authorities it evolved out of a domestic dispute. Phillip was apprehended in Virginia Beach.

ABC News 4 reported that Coroner Bill Salisbury is saying the woman's cause of death likely was strangulation. Her 8-year-old child died of strangulation.
