Sheriff's Office Holds Drug Take-Back in Goose Creek

Berkeley County Sheriff's Office Press Release

Prescription drug abuse continues to be a major problem in the United States. As part of the effort to address this problem, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has again partnered with the US Drug Enforcement Agency for the fifth National Prescription Drug Take-Back to collect and destroy expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday October 26 at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office located at 223 N. Live Oak Dr. in Moncks Corner and at the Berkeley County Summary Court at 303B North Goose Creek Blvd. in Goose Creek.

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to abuse of these drugs.

Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

Last year, the DEA destroyed over 180 tons of unwanted and expired drugs collected nationally.
