City Annexes Vacant Shopping Center on St. James Avenue

After no discussion, Goose Creek City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to annex the vacant shopping center near Crowfield Plantation.

First reading was passed during a special reading Aug. 29.

The old Food Lion shopping center previously remained outside the City's jurisdiction for years while its owner, University of South Carolina Foundation, did little with the property. According to city officials, the new owner Albert Heyward wanted the property inside the City to begin his new mini storage business.

Heyward called the storage units "high end" and the complex would include business offices.
