City Takes First Step Toward Annexing Vacant Food Lion Shopping Center

The vacant shopping center just outside of Crowfield Plantation on St. James Avenue could soon come under the jurisdiction of the City of Goose Creek. 

In a special meeting Thursday, Goose Creek City Council gave first reading to an ordinance that would annex the property into the city, Count on 2 News reported. A second reading is needed to bring the property into the city.

The city has long eyed the community eyesore, which is owned by the University of South Carolina Foundation, but since the property did not reside within the city, meaningful action has been delayed.
