8 a.m.: Drove by Westview precincts. They've consolidated the three into one building. The line was long, but no worse than it was for primary day. Of course, the weather was nicer in June!

7:30 a.m.: We bumped into Rep. Joe Daning in between visiting polling places. He said the line at Goose Creek City municipal center was wrapped around the building.

7 a.m.: More than 150 in line at Goose Creek Primary. One voter told us that it was a welcome change to the last presidential election — they were voting at Goose Creek High with other precincts and the line snaked through the entire building. Five hour wait. "First time I'd seen the whole school. Had to visit the bathrooms, too!"

Local Elections

State House

House District 15

Samuel Rivers Jr. is a petition candidate for S.C. House District 15, and the only name on the ballot. Rivers had filed in the GOP primary, but was removed from the ballot under the same filing technicality that removed many others from the primary ballots.

House District 100

One of two House races in other parts of the county, incumbent Republican Eddy Southard in House District 100 will face a second challenge from Democrat Tonya Aiken-Taylor.

House District 102

Incumbent Democrat Joe Jefferson will face a challenge from Republican Allan Weiss.

Berkeley County Council

Ken Gunn won the GOP Primary in County Council District 3. There is no Democrat in that race on the ballot in November. There are no other contested races in county government.

Berkeley County School Board

Kevin Cox will challenge Kent Murray in District 1. Marty Housand challenges Wilhelmina Moore in District 7. Running unopposed is Phillip Obie II in District 3, Kathy Schwalbe in District 5 and newcomer Scott Marino in District 9.
