Haley Responds to Convention Nod

First-term governor will have a national audience.

Last evening, multiple media outlets reported that to be selected to speak at the Republican National Convention later this month in Tampa.

Today, Gov. Haley issued a statement in response to the nod:

“The future generations of our children and our grandchildren are at stake in this election. While Americans work to build their businesses and create jobs, leaders of the Democratic party have spent more than three years raising taxes, increasing spending and taking away our health care choices. The Republican National Convention will be a time for not just our party but our country to come together and get behind Mitt Romney as the next president of the United States. I look forward to being a part of this historic event."

Beth Myers, who heads Gov. Mitt Romney's vice-presidential vetting team, called Haley last week with an invitation to speak. Myers said:

"A military wife and mother of two, Nikki Haley is one of our party's brightest stars and most energetic leaders. Governor and Mrs. Romney got to know the Haleys when Nikki was still a little-know legislator fighting to give South Carolinians the good government they deserve, and she's been a great friend and ally ever since. The Romneys have tremendous respect for what Governor Haley has accomplished in Columbia and what she represents for the future of our country."

Anticipating further speculation about Haley's vice-presidential chances, the governor's spokesman Rob Godfrey released the following statement:

"No matter how many times she’s asked, the answer remains the same: Governor Haley has made it very clear that, while she's a huge supporter of Governor Romney and will do whatever she can to help him win the White House, she is not interested in being vice president. Period."

Haley before the South Carolina primary, but it was not enough to bring the former Massachusetts governor a win in the Palmetto State. Haley has also campaigned on behalf of and .

I guess inviting Nimrata to tell all the GOP why her policies have kept unemployment higher than most states will be beneficial. I guess she can tell them how tution in SC in the highest in the South. I guess she can tell them that her own personal wealth is much more important than South Carolina. This woman is a failure.

re: 'the Democratic party have spent more than three years raising taxes, increasing spending and taking away our health care choices.' [the gov say] not a GOP but like i like the gov and believe she is as effective as most GOP govs...also believe she is more intelligent that most...and her sikh roots provide more moral values than those of many christians...so; it is difficult to understand why she has no original thoughts...just mouths the GOP party line bs (misinformation and lies)...and; she is wasting her time sucking up to mitt...she will certainly not be veep pick and doubtful if offered any post in a mitt administration...he just uses those like the SC gov for possible immediate political gain... if mitt had been aware of her negatives (he is running a poor campaign)in SC and among women...she would not have been given a spot at GOP convention.

"leaders of the Democratic party have spent more than three years raising taxes" - she needs a new accountant. Taxes went down after Obama took office. "increasing spending" - the government's budget is actually less; we've got people like Tim Scott claiming 'govt spent $600 billion on this one project' but without telling anyone that it's actually a reduction of about $250 billion "and taking away our health care choices." - funny; I know have MORE health care choices. I think Haley and Company are traveling so much to other countries (at our expense) that she must be confusing USA with those foreign nations. (Shoot - she's trying to get us to be just like North Korea, too!)
