Stratford Students Shine on Stage

Stratford students take honors at South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association of High School Festival.

Stratford High students won five awards at the South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association of High School Festival this month. 

High school students from all over the state competed in categories that included solo acting, original monologue, impromptu speaking, TV broadcasting, duet acting, reader's theatre, ensemble acting, group acting, and theatre design.

Stratford High, under the direction of Melissa Dertian, brought 20 drama students to the competition.

Here is where Stratford shone: 

  • Duel Acting: second place for "Bob: A Life of Five Acts," Bobby Barrett and Brandon Bullock
  • Original Comedic Monologue: second place, Kristina Friend
  • TV Broadcasting: first place, Betty Lavandero
  • Ensemble Performance: second place for "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged and Revised," Cierra Parmley, Kimmie Jurkowski, Alex Williams, Morgan Mollo and Casey Fabian
  • Ensemble Performance: third place for "Bob: A Life in Five Acts," Rachel Aarons, Bobby Barrett, Kristina Friend and Betty Lavandero
