A Smoak/Wieters Combo in Baltimore?

Stratford grads at center of MLB trade speculation.

Sports writers have been buzzing all day about the fate of Seattle Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak.

The Stratford grad's roots are at the heart of some of that speculation as its rumoured that the Mariners are looking to pull in Prince Fielder.

If that happens, Smoak would be displaced, but he could find a home in Baltimore, according to columnist Roch Kubatko.

As an added bonus, Smoak would be reunited with close friend Matt Wieters. They both hail from Goose Creek, S.C.

It's no sure thing that the Stratford grad is on the way out though. Seattle Times columnist Larry Stone said the Mariners need to keep Smoak.

Smoak is someone upon whom the Mariners are counting upon, hugely, to have a breakthrough season in 2012, which I don't think is an unreasonable pipe dream.

Stone thinks the trade won't happen, but the news Wednesday night was that the Mariners were still considering several different possible offers.
