Online Benefit Supports Couple Adopting Two Children

Goose Creek family adopting local newborn this fall and an international daughter next spring.

Last November, Trey and Ashton Phillips . Sitting in the showroom at Barfield's Appliance and Parts, the couple talked about their hope to grow their family as their biological toddler, Kipton, bounced in Ashton's arms.

Trey told us about their various fundraisiers for the expensive prospect of international adoption. Meanwhile, his garage at the shop was full of donated items for a giant yard sale.

Nearly a year later, the family's journey has both shifted and grown. The couple had hoped for an Ethiopian adoption, but guidelines in that country changed their plans. Now, the couple has been matched with a three-year-old girl in the Congo and hope to bring her home next spring.

And, through Aug. 12, they're getting a little help from Get1Save1, a blog that picks a family each week that is saving a life in Africa and asks supporters to donate $1. Ashton hopes this week's fundraiser will help with the final costs for both adoptions.

As part of the donation drive, the couple put together a video about their family. For more on the Phillips, visit their blog, phillipsfamilyadoption.com. For more on Give1Save1, visit Give1Save1Africa.
