Sheriff: Berkeley Co. Jail Lacking in Manpower

Jail needs 14 new officers to deal with overcrowding, Sheriff Wayne DeWitt said.

More than 100 beds are unused in Berkeley County jail because the county lacks the manpower to staff the space, according to Sheriff Wayne DeWitt, the Post and Courier reported. The 2010, $10 million expansion increased capacity at the facility to more than 325, but much of that space is unused today.
