Final 2012 BCS Standings

It's official: Notre Dame vs. Alabama in the national title game.

With the final BCS standings released Sunday night on ESPN, we get to all start arguing over how computers and coaches determine who plays in the most-valuable goals and the national title.  Here are the final BCS standings for 2012.

Poll: NCAA's Penn State Penalty Excessive?

School's athletic program, Paterno legacy hit hard by decision.

As the sexual abuse case against Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky works its way through the court, the school and the legacy of head coach Joe Paterno learned their fates Monday. The school faces a $60 million fine, a four-year ban on bowl games and 10 fewer football scholarships. Paterno had been criticized for not acting when he received information about alleged Sandusky abuse. In response to Paterno's role and the role of the Penn State football program, the school has been stripped of 14 years of wins — stripping Paterno of his title as the most successful coach in history.    The school is also losing top talent, as athletes get a free pass to transfer to another school. If you could just punish Jerry Sandusky, NO, in fact, it ain't enough, and as for Joe Paterno keeping his mouth shut about it, too bad he's dead. But that doesn't justify punishing the current footballl players that had nothing to do with it, They should just let them play football, and if they win enough games, let them go to a bowl game.   more ›

USC Responds to NCAA Decision

The university has been fined and loses scholarships as part of the decision.

The NCAA agreed with South Carolina's self-imposed sanctions and on Friday ordered the school to forfeit six football scholarships over the next two seasons, pay a $18,500 fine and receive three years of probation. The school is being reprimanded for failing to monitor its athletics program. According to the NCAA investigation, 12 student-athletes lived in local hotel while paying a daily rate of less than $15 per person, an amount that was considerably less than what was available to the general student population. The report also states that nine student-athletes received special loan arrangements by deferring rent payments through an agreement with the hotel. Leaders who don't follow the rules-players that don't follow the rules. Gee, it doesn't take a higher education to see the connection. I think that any fines that are paid should be applied directly to art and music programs, where we don't see that kind of behavior and which are much more valuable in the long run.   more ›
