Cancelled schedule for tomorrow.
The Des Moines Register is reporting that former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum was taken ill and hospitalized while travelling in South Carolina on Saturday. According to Santorum's spokeswoman Virginia Davis, Santorum “became ill and was admitted to the hospital for a gastro-intestinal illness and dehydration.” The illness caused Santorum to cancel two events in Iowa that had been scheduled for Monday. Davis said Santorum is expected to return to a full schedule later in the week. Santorum was recently in South Carolina to support and campaign for Curtis Bostic in the South Carolina First Congressional District race. Santorum's son John attends The Citadel. In a Twitter posting on Friday morning, Santorum said he was visiting The …

Kerry Wood says he hired controversial blogger.
UPDATED: Includes response from Bostic campaign manager David O'Connell on Sanford campaigns remarks regarding transparency. The mystery of who hired blogger Ali Akbar has been solved. A volunteer staffer for the Curtis Bostic congressional campaign, Kerry Wood, told Patch he hired Akbar and is also responsible for the creation of the web site trustcurtis.com. Through campaign manager David O'Connell, the Bostic campaign originally said neither Akbar nor the website were approved. O'Connell later said the website was the work of an "overzealous volunteer." Plenty of people were surprised when Bostic finished second to former Gov. Mark Sanford in the Republican Primary for the First Congressional District. Among those who were surprised …
GOP rival to Mark Sanford receives a slew of endorsements in the final week before the April 2 runoff.
A two-day blitz of endorsements for South Carolina First Congressional District GOP candidate Curtis Bostic appears to have climaxed with his latest endorsement: conservative commentator Ann Coulter. Bostic is vying for the GOP nomination in the special election race. He's up against well-known and well-heeled former Gov. Mark Sanford. Bostic previously held public office on Charleston County Council, and is a lawyer. Bostic has also received endorsements from former Presidential candidate Rick Santorum and retired Maj. Gen. James Livingston. The runoff is April 2. Bostic's campaign manager confirmed Coulter's endorsement Tuesday night. The official announcement is expected some time Wednesday. The endorsement shouldn't come as much of …

Former GOP presidential candidate and Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum said Rep. Paul Ryan should win tonight's Vice Presidential debate
In town for Family Day at The Citadel where his son is a student, former GOP presidential candidate and Sen. Rick Santorum spoke to Charleston Republicans in North Charleston Thursday. He told a small crowd at the Charleston GOP Headquarters at 4952 Centre Pointe Drive, North Charleston that Vice Presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan will be successful in tonight's debate with Vice President Joe Biden. "I'm very optimistic about tonight, I think Paul's going to do a great job tonight, Paul has a lot of strengths," Santorum said. "He's a very smart guy, he's very deep in policy, he understands the numbers. "Paul's biggest problem is he understands the numbers too well. He just likes to talk about numbers and that is a problem that can be …

SC Senator joined by Rick Santorum in backing controversial Missouri candidate.
In a joint statement released on Wednesday morning, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, announced their support for controversial Missouri senatorial candidate Rep. Todd Akin. Akin drew national attention in August when he suggested that women who were victims of "legitimate rape" had the ability to "shut that whole thing down" and prevent themselves from getting pregnant. Akin is in a battle with incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill and recent polls show him between five and seven points behind. He had been leading until his comments created an outcry that caused several Republicans, including presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, to call for his resignation. DeMint's Senate Conservative Fund PAC sent …

Exit cinches Romney's quest for the GOP nomination, but there's no endorsement yet.
In Gettysburg, Penn., the town made famous by a great Cvil War battle, Rick Santorum announced today that he would end his own fight for the presidency. Citing the health of his daughter, 3-year-old Bella, who has been critically ill in recent months, Santorum said he was exiting the race to focus on family. The decision came over the weekend after discussions with his family, he said. "We made the decision to get into this race at our kitchen table, against all the odds, and we made the decision over the weekend that while this presidential race for us is over for me and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are not done fighting," Santorum said. The former Pennsylvania senator won 11 states in total during the primary contest …

Probably not, even though the streak of picking presidents is likely over.
In January, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was a double-digit winner in the South Carolina primary over frontrunner Mitt Romney, with Rick Santorum coming in a distant third. At the time, it was thought that the win might be precisely the shot in the arm the struggling Gingrich campaign needed. Instead, Gingrich has floundered, having won only his home state of Georgia in the 32 primaries and caucuses since. His inability to capitalize on the momentum means that the South Carolina GOP’s streak of correctly picking the eventual nominee since 1980 will come to an end. To some, the streak was evidence of the Palmetto State’s importance in the primary schedule. While others, who did not necessarily diminish the importance of the …

Gov. Nikki Haley will stump for Gov. Romney Friday
Two months after failing to deliver South Carolina for former Gov. Mitt Romney, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will return to the frontrunner's campaign trail this weekend. Haley will speak on Romney's behalf at the Pennsylvania Leadership Conference in Camp Hill, Pa., at 2:15 p.m. Friday. Presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich will also speak at the two-day event, but Romney is not expected to attend. The Pennsylavania primary takes place April 24. Haley's sought-after endorsement proved insignificant for Romney in South Carolina, where Gingrich won by 12 points. Since the January primary, Haley has been absent from the campaign trail, including missing Romney's gathering on the night of the primary. And in her return to…
