No Powerball Winners — Jackpot Grows to $253 Million

Saturday's drawing grows even bigger.

With no one winning the jackpot in Wednesday's Powerball drawing, the jackpot grows even larger on Saturday. The estimated winnings will now be $253 million, or $170.5 million in a bulk payout. Lottery Winner Runs to Collect Dough — Without Telling Wife

The Berkeley County man won $500,000, but didn't tell his wife.

A Berkeley County man who $500,000 playing the lottery last week. But instead of telling his wife, the Cross man escaped to Columbia to collect the dough instead, according to a press release from the S.C. Education Lottery. He told lottery officials that he left his wife sleeping in bed and drove the two hours to Columbia to cash in his Palmetto Cash 5 ticket (7, 13, 16, 19 and 28). His plan? To return by lunch to tell her. What will she say? “There is no telling." The $500,000 will pay off the couple’s house and buy both new vehicles, the unidentified man said. Powerball Changes Coming Sunday

Price of tickets will increase to $2 following Saturday's drawing, but offers bigger jackpots and better odds.

Powerball players get ready for some changes. The popular lottery is making a few changes after Saturday's drawing, but it promises bigger jackpots and better odds. On Sunday, the cost of a Powerball ticket will increase to $2. Lottery officials said the jackpot will double to $40 million. What will change other than the price: More than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students, since the lottery started in 2002.

Ladson Couple Wins Big

Scratch-off lottery ticket brings in $100,000 for couple.

The S.C. Education Lottery couldn’t have scripted a better reaction. When a Ladson man showed his wife his winning lottery ticket, she screamed flailing her arms and the ticket about. He followed with a manly fist pump and yell.  The screams continued. A $100,000 winning Money Machine scratch-off ticket, purchased at the Li'l Cricket in Ladson, sparked the celebration. The couple is predicting a repeat performance when they pay off their cars and credit cards.  “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood,” said the husband accepting the check.
