Former Stratford Star Joins Charleston Pro Soccer Team

Austin Savage will play for the Charleston Battery after four years at Clemson.

A former Stratford High School and Clemson University soccer standout will join the Charleston Battery pro soccer team this year. Forward Austin Savage, who set a school record for goals while at Stratford and then played for Clemson for four years, will join the team's this year. Kirsten Lane Mimms, 17, of Ladson, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012.  Kirsten was born May 1, 1995, in Charleston, a daughter to Rusty and Linda Lane Mimms.  Kirsten was a senior at Stratford High School. She was employed at Palmetto Moon. During her high school career she was very involved in the drama club, the soccer team, cheerleading and chorus. She loved the water, boating and fishing with her dad, and shopping with her mom. She also loved the USC Gamecocks.  Her family remembers her as an exuberant, independent, happy and funny young lady. She was a "people person." She loved her music and she loved to dance. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Phyllis Lane. Survivors include her parents, Rusty and Linda Mimms …

Burglary Charges in Stratford High Break-In

Police believe suspect responsible for similar break-in last week.

Goose Creek Police have arrested a man accused of breaking into Stratford High School and stealing money from the school's vending machines. Matthew Thomas has been charged with burglary, possession of implements capable of being used in a crime and resisting arrest. Officers responded to a call of an alarm sounding at the high school after 9:30 p.m. Sunday night. Stratford Cheerleaders Win Patriots Cheer Classic

Both JV and Varsity take home first place in Lowcountry competition.

Yes 4 Schools Video Upsets Opponents

Two days, two columns of ink spent on Berkeley schools referendum.

If the supporters of a school district bond referendum were hoping a new four minute video would go viral, two columns of newspaper ink suggest its at least getting attention. On Nov. 6, Berkeley County voters will decide whether to support a $198 million bond referendum to build five new schools; provide major renovations at Goose Creek High, Stratford High and Marrington Middle; and other improvements to more than two dozen schools across the district. Yes 4 Schools, the independent group supporting the referendum, created the video that has group leader Jane Pulling making the argument for the referendum. Stratford High Junior Varsity Volleyball Wins Ashley Ridge Invitational

Students Nichole Linthicum and Kat Tate recognized.

The Stratford High School junior varsity volleyball team took home top honors at the Ashley Ridge Volleyball Invitational on Sept. 15th. The Lady Knights defeated Fort Dorchester in the championship game 2-0 after falling behind by 10 points in the first game. Stratford High grad Matt Wieters, catcher for the Baltimore Orioles scored the winning run Tuesday night in the division playoff series against the New York Yankees. Legislators Endorse School Building Referendum

Support on the heels of Yes 4 Schools launch.

Local legislators are endorsing Berkeley County School District's bond referendum on the November ballot. Their support follows the launch of Yes 4 Schools, a volunteer effort in support of the referendum. The district is asking voters to approve spending $198 million for 5 new schools and renovations at 29 existing sites. If approved, new sites include elementary schools in at Sheep Island Road, Tanner Plantation and Foxbank Plantation, and a new high school and middle school in the Daniel Island/Cainhoy area. There will also be improvements to several schools, including large projects at Goose Creek High and Stratford High to address overcrowding. We should be teaching the basics so that a graduate has skills to get a viable job, not be a short lived sports professional.
