Anti-Obama Signs Posted Near Cane Bay

Berkeley County company has angry message for Obama voters.

Berkeley County, S.C. — Anger over the result of Tuesday's presidential election has bubbled over on the roadside not far from Cane Bay. A sign posted along State Road rants against Obama supporters, praying that the Northeast and West Coast should fall into the ocean. The large letter-board sign sits in front of a landscaping office at 1412 State Road. The other side reads "Did you vote for Obama? Thanks a lot asshole!" Obama won Tuesday's election after a very contentious campaign season, but a majority of Berkeley County voters supported Republican candidate Mitt Romney. Romney won the vote in South Carolina.  Wayne Hall, listed in Berkeley County records as the owner of the property, could not be reached for comment. Another sign at …

Why can't this individual express his views without rage, cursing and insulting his fellow Americans? His insulting views are there to see for everyone that drives their children to the nearby elementary, middle and high schools.Great unproductive example of how you handle your disagreements and problems. I don't know why I bother to look at them, it's like I want to see what angry, degradating …   more ›

Goose Creek Local Election Results

A look at how voters impacted local races.

Voters Approve Berkeley School Referendum

Challengers fail against district's $198 million capital building plan.

Berkeley County voters appear to have approved a $198 million capital building program proposed by district officials. Wwih 52 of 57 precincts reporting, the referendum was leading aginst opposition 30,542 to 22,094. The work proposed includes significant improvements at Goose Creek and Stratford high schools and Marrington Middle School, as well as new elementary schools in Hanahan and at Foxbank Plantation. Critics of the referendum called for more specificity in spending, and questioned the fiscal management of past capital projects and the role they believed the district played in supporting the referendum's passage. WCIV, News 4, spoke with district leaders as votes came in.  "I'm just excited that democracy is working at it's best in…

Ministers Say Community Needs School Bond Referendum

"Our children are being held back by out-of-date facilities."

By Rev. Leonard Griffin, Rev. Richard Harkness, Bishop Johnie Johnson, Minister Kenny Johnson, Rev. Stephen Love, Rev. Joe McNeil, Rev. Virginia Stafford, and Rev. Mae Taylor As ministers, we aim to meet our community's needs and work day in and day out with our families and children to do so. We are blessed to live and worship in Berkeley County. Our experiences confirm to us that strong families, strong values and a strong education are cornerstones for a contributing citizen of the future. That's why we support the Berkeley School Improvement Referendum. Our children are being held back by out-of-date facilities. Classrooms are overcrowded. Many students are crammed into trailers. Our school campuses are not as safe as they need to be. …

Opinion: Early Voting a Responsible Alternative

Reader disagree's with paper's "Mayberry" ideal of Election Day.

By A. Thomas Price I must disagree with the Post and Courier editorial today (10-08-12) regarding early voting vs. absentee voting in South Carolina. The writers seem to be suffering from a Mayberry Polyanna ideal of Democracy. They seem to be stuck on the concept that voting MUST happen on the same day everywhere for us to be taking serious and fulfilling our patriotic duty of participating in this democracy. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there are a few people out there — maybe 60 percent to 75 percent of the total voting-eligible population — who are hard-liners in their partisanship.  The writers suggest that we should all wait until the very last day to cast a vote for Candidate A or B (or C) because there may be some "…

Tim Scott's Opponents Make Argument for New Representation

Bobbie Rose and Keith Blandford appear at League of Women Voters forum.

Rep. Tim Scott declined a debate Wednesday with his challengers on the Nov. 6 ballot, opting instead for a scheduled campaign event in Bluffton. But his opponents, Democrat Bobbie Rose and Libertarian Keith Blandford, took the opportunity to speak with 40 voters at a League of Women Voters forum. The event was also streamed live online and will be available at the LWV website. Rose criticized Scott for not attending the forum. "Right now, we have a Congressman, but we don't have a representative," she said. "Tim Scott did not show up for work today." She called for universal Pre-K education, claiming leaving it up to states would be leaving some students without the important resource. Rose also stressed the importance of technical …

well, LWV chose that specific date because Scott's campaign told them that was when he was available. That "scheduled event" in Bluffton must have gotten scheduled at the last minute; by choosing that private fundraiser over the pre-scheduled public debate should tell who Scott really cares about -   more ›

Anita Zucker Backs Berkeley Schools Referendum

Billionaire executive makes pitch for $198 million plan.

As we get closer to Nov. 6, supporters and opponents have been increasing vocal on the $198 million Berkeley County schools bond referendum. On Friday, local businesswoman and noted philanthropist Anita Zucker wrote an opinion piece calling for Berkeley County voters to support the referendum. Don't miss a headline! Like Goose Creek Patch! If approved by voters, new schools are planned for Daniel Island and Cainhoy, as well as elementary schools for Hanahan, Foxbank Plantation and the Sheep Island area. Significant improvements are planned at Goose Creek High, Stratford High and Marrington School of the Arts. Improvements are planned more than two dozen other schools, including Boulder Bluff Elementary, College Park Elementary, College …

There are so many lies being given that his whole campaign has become a joke. There is no student crammed into any trailers and there is absolutely NO safety issues. The messages that this campaign is allowing individuals to endorse has become pathetic. If anybody has any knowledge of this so called issues then they need to let us know. I have been employed by this school district for 20 years …   more ›

Yes 4 Schools Video Upsets Opponents

Two days, two columns of ink spent on Berkeley schools referendum.

If the supporters of a school district bond referendum were hoping a new four minute video would go viral, two columns of newspaper ink suggest its at least getting attention. On Nov. 6, Berkeley County voters will decide whether to support a $198 million bond referendum to build five new schools; provide major renovations at Goose Creek High, Stratford High and Marrington Middle; and other improvements to more than two dozen schools across the district. Yes 4 Schools, the independent group supporting the referendum, created the video that has group leader Jane Pulling making the argument for the referendum. The issues she brings up in the video are similar to the comments she made at the Yes 4 Schools launch earlier this month in front of…
