'The time for rhetoric is no longer, it is time to act.'
After suggesting he would be a no-show, Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) made it to the State of the Union address, but seemed to find what he expected from President Barack Obama's speech. "The president gave an incredibly similar speech this year," Scott said in comments released following the address. "Unfortunately rhetoric only lasts so long without action. Twenty-seven bi-partisan House bills wait in the Senate collecting dust." Scott was also critical of the president's rejection of the Keystone Pipeline and new federal initiatives. Obama proposed increased tax assistance for homeowners and a job-training focus for community colleges and the unemployed. Office said earlier he would be watching with his brother.
Updated, 10:45 p.m.: According to a statement released by Rep. Tim Scott's office, he attended Tuesday night's State of the Union address in what appears to have been a last-minute decision. Scott's office told Patch that he planned to watch the speech with is brother, stationed in Alexandria, Va., but that his absense was not in protest. We were told late Tuesday night that Scott had dinner with his brother and was able to make it to the president's address. Spokesman Sean Smith said he didn't know when the congressman made the decision to attend. Original Reporting: Rep.
