Good Morning Marrington Hits The Air Waves For Second Nine Weeks

Marrington Elementary School is proud to introduce the Marrington News Team for the second nine weeks of school. They are Alexis Weaver, Alena Stevens, Shade Washington, and Emma Zaleski.  At the end of last year, students in grade 5 were given an opportunity to fill out job applications for Marrington’s daily TV morning news show, “Good Morning Marrington.” The students applied for whatever specific position they were interested in, whether it be in front of the camera or behind it. The students had to get recommendations from their teachers in order to participate.

“Good Morning Marrington” is broadcast every day in classrooms throughout the school.  The show is produced by school librarian Melissa Simmons and run entirely by teams of 5th grade students.  The news show features a “Joke of the Day,” weather report, historical facts, and events that are happening throughout the school.  Another component of the news show is the segment “Character Corner With Mrs. Schuler.”  Each morning, school counselor Ann Schuler delivers a short, motivational message that revolves around the character word of the month that the students have learned about in classroom guidance.  Additionally, Mrs. Schuler and the newscasters sing a corresponding song to reinforce the lessons.  As you walk through the school the halls of Marrington, one can hear the students singing along!  The show is additionally shown on a large TV in mounted in the front office, so school visitors can enjoy the show as well, which contributes to the positive school climate that is a vital part of the culture at Marrington Elementary School.
