School Board Member: Ethics Investigation Stems from 'Political Agenda'

Authorities received complaints of potentially numerous violations.

Berkeley County School District said school employees acted in "good faith" and that an ethics investigation into the district's conduct stems from disgruntled opponents of the school bond referendum passed in November, Live 5 News reported.

The Attorney General's Office reported that authorities have received information of "potential numerous violations" from the $198 million referendum that raised taxes.

The Ethics Commission is investigating an undisclosed number of district employees. The investigation is looking into allegations that employees and equipment were used to support the bond referendum.

Live 5 reported:

"From everything I know, every one of our school employees acted in good faith in efforts related to the much needed school referendum," says Doug Cooper, a school board member. "A small group of disgruntled opponents with own personal family and political agendas would like you to think otherwise."
